Finding laser deals on Amazon

Amazon is a great place to buy a hobby laser. The Amazon selection of hobby lasers is overwhelming but I have a few tips to find the best price and make sure you are getting the best service.  Every Amazon listing is not the same in delivery timing, support and service.  Follow these tips (and the link above) to find your top laser deal on Amazon.

• If you’re a Prime member click the “All Prime” checkbox in the upper left corner of the Amazon site.  This weeds out resellers who don’t use Amazon warehouse services- delivery times without Prime can be weeks!  Even if you’re not a Prime subscriber this is a useful selection to narrow down buyers you should consider.
• Use the left sidebar to further pair down the options.
• I always select the 4 stars and above option- no sense in even looking at something with 3 or fewer stars.
• Selecting “All Discounts” will show everything that is on sale or has a coupon.  Be careful- this does not always mean the cheapest available.  There could be a cheaper, regular priced listing that won’t show when you use this filter.
• You can also trim down the search results by selecting a price range.
• Use the sort drop down on the right side of the page.  Keep in mind that Amazon will still mix promoted items in the results and Amazon seems to reduce the number of items in the results with other filters automatically.

Once you find what you’d like to buy

• Use a credit card to purchase your laser in the unlikely case you need to have an issue and Amazon will not accept a return.
• If offered, decline any insurance on the item.  Experts advise against these plans that often have complicated terms.
• During checkout pay attention to the shipping options.  You can often select the shipping timing and Amazon defaults to the option that works best for them- not what works best for you.  Be mindful they may charge for some shipping options even if you have Prime.
• Keep your Amazon boxes and packing materials until you are comfortable with the condition of the order.  It’s useful if you need to ship a return.
• speaking of returns- pay attention to the options for returning something.  The options may require a fee, may require the return to be dropped off somewhere like a UPS store or FedEx drop-off.  A return could end up costing you considerably if you don’t choose the options carefully.
